What is there not to love about this Napa home featured in Architectural Digest? It has a little something for everyone; sophistication and casualty, neutral palettes and pops of color...all done with balance and ease.

Swingers

There is something eternally youthful about the swing. They conjure up pleasant childhood memories of warm summer days spent outdoors and the feeling of being able to defy gravity, if even for only a split second. Why not capture that whimsical energy indoors, as an adult!

PUBLIC Chicago

The PUBLIC Chicago is a new concept hotel brought to us by Ian Schrager (credited as the inventor of “boutique hotels”). Much like his previous ventures, Public is hip and sophisticated, although more restrained in color and styling. Particularly in the lobby, the building’s historical elements are highly visible but paired with a modern mirrored reception desk and sleek furniture. PUBLIC is a great example of a new breed of hotels offering simplified luxury, proving that less really can be more in the world of high-class accommodations.

Ikat patterns are not for everyone, but you have to admit that these New Ravenna Mosaics tiles by Sara Baldwin add an exciting twist to the trend.

Mix n' Match

This North Carolina retreat, designed by Nancy Warren, is a true study of mixing and matching. In the kitchen, a farmhouse table has replaced a standard center island and is surrounded by an eclectic blend of seating (stools, upholstered head chairs, and a bench), to make the space feel more like a room and less like a kitchen. Warren herself says, “I feel like I could move anything into another room and it would fit,” of her collage effect. Anyone who has tried mixing and matching their furnishings knows that it is not always easy and this residence is a beaming example doing it right.

A Fresh Start

Something about the start of a new year truly lends itself to the process of purging useless clutter and organizing things of importance. Here are a few images I’ll be using as motivation around the house and office to promote efficiency and of course, sanity.
